Our activities

At the NECPC we don't tend to work directly with children and families experiencing poverty, but we work with and provide support to organisations that do.

Core activities

The NECPC meets formally three times per year. Business meetings focus on national policy and campaigns, local and regional updates, information sharing and opportunities for joint funding and collaborative work. In addition to this, the NECPC carries out the following activities:

  • Open meetings, events and seminars (visit our Events tab for information on upcoming events)
  • Newsletters, policy and research updates, and written reports (visit our Contact tab to sign up for regular newsletters)
  • Specific projects, events and campaigns
  • Annual monitoring reports of NE child poverty

Through these core activities we try to:

  • Engage with employers to support them in reducing in-work poverty
  • Support schools to address poverty through training and information
  • Work closely with local authorities to support their work on child poverty
  • Arrange cross-sector events to raise awareness and build understanding of child poverty
  • Prepare and share evidence, and raise awareness about child poverty in the North East

We are always open to new ideas for events, projects and campaigns so we would encourage anyone with something to share to contact us. We would love to hear from you!

Work has to be a better route out of poverty. Most poor children have a working parent.
